You'll probably want to run during the summer. Maybe a few miles a day (at most.) You don't need to practice every day, but the more practice the better you will be.
If your course or courses you will be running on have hills you will want to train for that. Stay on your toes and keep your arms pumping. Find a hill near your house and practice trying to improve your times.
I can't help you with the tryouts because we don't have tryouts at my school. If you can run pretty well, then you'll probably make it.
Just wear a loose t-shirt and shorts when you run - at least that's what I do. Some people use those running tank tops and shorts. Make sure they are like sport-shorts (loose soccer shorts or something.) Don't eat or drink too much before a meet. Drink the whole day before, but stop a few hours or so before your meet, and go pee beforehand (it sucks if you don't.) Just a small snack if you're hungry.
Good luck! Cross-country is my favorite sport ever!Cross country running tips %26amp; advice?
Start running over the summer at any speed for 30 minutes, 3 times a week. Gradually increase to 45 minutes 4 days a week, and eventually 60 min for 5 days.
Buy a pair of Asics running shoes, they work wonders. You can get a pair for around 30-45 dollars. Wear shorts and a t shirt/tank top, and some under armor/spandex if its cold. Sweatshirts will slow you down.
The day of a race, drink lots of water, but not right before! If you drink lots of water within a half hour of your race, you'll cramp up. Eat relatively good, lots of fruit, sandwiches ect.
That should help =D
1) For about a month, start off my running a mile or so 6 days a week, gradually building those distances up by 1/2 a mile each week. You need to build yourself a base. Then you will need to do interval workouts (4x400) and tempo runs at least twice a week. This will get you faster.
2) Tryouts for myself are just like a competition. Take them seriously by eating proper foods, getting plenty of sleep, and hydrating.
3) Wear good running shoes, I like Asics but everybody has a preference. Wear these along with comfortable clothes you won't get hot in.
4) I just eat whole grain pasta the night before, then eat bananas and peanut butter toast race day. Along with A LOT of water prior to the race. 3 hours prior to the race you need to limit hydration and just sip water.
oh my god i have the same problem! but at my school, we don't have tryouts but im preparing by running everyday and i trying to run 7 miles by august. good luck!
