Im quite nervous to switch countries for a year but also excited im eager for any tips you might have! thanksIm moving to England for a year in a few weeks, any advice or tips?
-First of all, enjoy the scenery. I lived in Scotland for four months and I loved it. Britain has such a feeling of history compared to the U.S. And the landscapes are beautiful.
-If you get travelers checks, get them in Pounds Sterling rather than dollars. My fellow travelers were charged large conversion fees to use US$ travelers checks. (I had checks in Pounds and I wasn't charged any fees.)
-Don't use the word ';pants'; to describe slacks/trousers. In Britain, ';pants'; means underwear.
-Don't be surprised if you hear the word ';***'; In Britain it's slang for cigarette. Even though I knew that, it's startling to hear it.
-If you are in line for something, stay there! Brits take queuing very seriously. I once stepped to the side, a couple steps out of the line, to look at something in a store, and the cashier snapped at me, thinking I was trying to skip in line.
-Don't cross the street against the signal. Brits don't watch for pedestrians like they do in the U.S. You will get run over.Im moving to England for a year in a few weeks, any advice or tips?
