Before you buy sox and underwear like the other guy said, find out if ';your'; system will let you bring things in... most don't. Most strip you out when you arrive.





Make sure you have a copy of your Probation Dept's Pre-sentence Investigation that they did on you. If you are White or Mexican, as soon as you get to your cellblock, your race will come to you and make you prove to them with your PSI that you are not a sex offender. If you dont have it, you better f-ing get it FAST. If you dont have it or wont show it, you are assumed to be a sex offender and will be given the oppty to seek protective custody from the cops before inmates kick your ***. If you're a sex offender, well, just seek protection from the get-go cuz you're screwed if you hit the yard. Btw... thats ALL sex offenses...not just pedos.





Do you have a co-defendant? If so, be careful... he might have a beef with you and start talking about you when you get there. The easiest way to get a snitch-jacket is by having a co-defendant on the yard who you arent pals with. Once you have a snitch-jacket, you are persona non grata, and will eventually become a target.





Dont eat the bread. Many inmates have been caught fcuking the bread dough.





If there's a fight and the cops start to shoot... don't run. They will shoot your asss too. Get on the ground asap.





Stay away from a gay Filipino named Jo-Jo.





Dont hang out with the Blacks (if you're white) or smoke with them. You will be seen as a race-traitor and will become a target of the Whites.





Save up some money beforehand and have your family put it on your ';books'; after you get there.





If your cellie is acting strangely, keep a close eye on him or you might be end up with a cawk in your mouth in the middle of the night.





Get in every program that you can.... the more likely you'll get your parole





Be a ';porter'; if you can... when there are long lockdowns due to violence or escapes, porters get extra privileges from the cops, like showers and food.





Search your own cell periodically to make sure your cellie isnt keeping contraband. If he gets caught with weapons or drugs in your cell, you'll be blamed too. If he IS keeping contraband and you cannot force him to stop, quietly seek a bed move. But dont seek it too aggressively or the cops will know whats up and will bust him/you. Then, you'll get the snitch jacket.

No way to minimize common problems. A friend of mine is a prison guard. He has been stabbed and cut himself 7 times. If you keep to yourself, you will be ganged up on. If you affiliate yourself with a group, which is almost a must, you must obey what they say and do or risk getting hurt or killed yourself.





There is not much you can do to protect yourseff. The other inmates will have rules to follow as well as follow the guards rules.

And as you are young enough , So read as Researcher %26amp; not as a follower ,

Find the meanest toughest guy there and sucker punch him. It will show the other inmates you arent to be messed with.
Bring your own socks and underwear. Trust me on this.
