Lifeguarding might be a good option.
When I was your age I worked for a measly $4.70 an hour (minimum wage at the time), at a super market.
If you have a little initiative you could start your own summer buisness, and make a good deal more than that. I wish someone would've given me the advice I'm about to give you when I was 16.
Here's a couple of ideas.
Idea #1
Are there a weekly outdoor fairs or anything similar where people will be outside in the heat for long periods of time? Consider purchasing 4-5 Igloo ice chests. Stock them full of bottles of water, coke, pepsi, diet coke, lemonade, etc. (And of course ice). You could purchase them for about $0.25 a piece and sell them for $2.00. (You'll be amazed at what people are willing to pay when they are out in the heat and they see your ice cold waters or colas. Anyhow that's $1.75 profit each, if you sold 200 per saturday that would be $350 profit in a single saturday. (That would be 1 sale every six minutes for 10 hours) Of course you may need to find out if this requires any kind of a licence. (The easiest way to find this out is simply to go to a fair and ask one of the vendors what is required.)
Idea #2
If you have acess to a truck and a lawn mower...
People are usually willing to pay $10-15 bucks to have someone else mow their lawn. I imagine it would take you about 45min-1 hr per lawn. Get a few clients who you will mow the lawn for every 2 weeks, and do it on Saturday mornings, etc. If you could get just 8 clients each paying 15 dollars each time, and you mow each twice per month, that adds up to $240/month. That would be a Saturday morning once per week. Of course if your willing to work more, you'll make more.
Idea #3
Also, many people hate picking up dog poop. You could probably make even more money with this than lawns. You could probably charge people $20/month to pick up poop in their lawns. You'd visit them probably every week, but it would only take you about 5-10 minutes per yard. If you got say 40 clients, it would take you 6-7 hours per Saturday and you'd be making $800 dollars per month. It would take you probably 1-2 saturdays to get your 40 clients.
Now if your really a go getter and your willing to work 4 hours a day 5 days a week, you could handle up to 120 clients and make $ 2,400 a month. And thats only on 20 hours a week.
Making money is SOOOOOO easy once you start to think about it. And personally I think that anyone who works for minimum wage either is lazy, or has no initiative.
Just use common sence, think about what services people are willing to pay for, etc.
Good Luck!
yea. start looking b4 summer
I applied with this company and I was able to find a good job in a week www.domesticconnection.net, they have tons of jobs in Minnesota
Are you certified to be a lifeguard? I once worked at a country club for the summer, selling drinks and snacks at the golf course -- you might check with some country clubs near you to see if they have anything available. Maybe you could work as a caddy, too. I wonder if movie theaters hire temporary help, that would be fun. Or something at the mall. Camp counselor, would you like that? I don't know, there are so many options, but I'm sure you'll find something good.
You may want to try the YMCA or Recreation Department. They both hire teenagers to help with their summer camps.
The best advice I can give you is not to be 16. If you can be maybe 24 or 25 with a bachelor's degree in let's say business... I could probably help you out. When you are 16, you are dumb. You don't realize this now, but you will in about 10 years. Just take some crap job that pays minimum wage and hope that your life will turn out to be worth a crap. It is all what you make of it, so go to it!
There is alway telemarketing, but you will need your parents consent. Also telemarketing is the best to start
out with because you get better pay with part-time hours.
There is babysitting, and fast food restraunts.
As a teen of the same age, I would have to say... Get a job baby sitting. It's not a chick thing. Its fun and fast and easy. It's like getting paid to play. I've earned 250$ in one month doing it. Trust me on this one; It's the best way to go.
