If you're a beginner, you should do three things:





1. Buy yourself a good grammar book with exercises for beginners. I recommend Denise de Rome's ';Soluzioni! A practical guide to Italian grammar';, published by Arnold.





2. Buy a good dictionary, medium-sized, such as the Oxford Paravia Concise.





3. Enrol yourself in an Italian class for beginners, taught by a native speaker. This is a good time of year to look for a class, in good time for the start of the coming academic year. Don't leave it too long - beginners classes get oversubscribed and they fill up very quickly. If you live near a large city, you may be fortunate enough to have a branch of the Istituto Italiano di Cultura near you - they usually run classes. Otherwise try your local college's adult education programme.I am looking to learn italian...can anyone give me tips, advice, etc?....thanks?

The easiest way (though it is frustrating sometimes) you can do what my family did to me.. they sent me to live with my aunt and uncle in italy who only spoke italian.. it was fun because i go to italy every year anyways but it helped me learn and i was only 11 so it was an adventure all in its own.. of course anythings an adventure when your in a city older than rome!
