Any tips and advice on how to get a children's story and picture book published?

Luck, persistence, networking, decent writing, Unhindered by defeat, the text can be read by/understood by/enjoyed by children once they CAN read it, some kind of hook such as great illustrations that accompany the story line, a publisher of course, but don't hold your breath. At 1500 plus submissons a week, you may be on the bottom of the pile for a very long time, OR if read and you are fortunate enough to get a rejection notice,,, take it as a compliment that at least the story was read.

12 Sesame street stories, long ago, still enjoy childrens works.

Take a lesson from stories like ';Good Night Moon'; and Polar Express'; to name two.

Seek out the smaller houses, and those that are strictly devoted to material for children. Start with features, submitted to magazines.

Be innovative, but not abstract, follow the standards/classics and safety in them.

Get copies of Writers Digest, and scan the classifieds in the back, looking for submissions.
