Im going to build a stereo, but im not sure about buying speakers.
Id also like them to be able to tie in to record players (If possible)
Any advice? (I love wall shaking bass)Speaker buying tips/advice/recomendations?
If you want wall shaking bass, you will want a large speaker with at least a 12'; woofer, or better yet, a 15'; woofer. A good speaker of this size will be able to push enough air to reproduce bass frequencies below 40Hz. However, these will usually trade off for sound quality and soundstaging qualities. If you want the best of both worlds or don't want to spend thousands of dollars, you can get a nice pair of bookshelf speakers on stands or a petite pair of floor speakers and pair them up with 1 or 2 powered 12-15'; subwoofers. See these websites to get an idea...
If I can be of any more specific help, please e-mail me for assistance.
Happy listening!Speaker buying tips/advice/recomendations?
We need to know your budget. Speakers cost anywhere from tens of dollars to thousands and thousands of dollars. How much do you have to spend?
That said, the ability of the speakers to ';tie into'; a record player doesn't have much to do with the record player. A better question would be ';what budget-minded receiver would allow me to plug in a record player and still get great sound?';
Knowing what kind of record player you'd like to tie in would also help. What outputs does it have? Phono jack? RCA plugs/jacks?
If you're a typical bass fan, you'll want to go with a receiver that has a high power (wattage per channel) output, but also has a phono jack (this is what most old-school record players need to connect to a receiver- if your record player is high-tech, the connection needed may be different.)
If sound quality is not a huge issue, you should be able to pick up a receiver of that type ';on the cheap,'; so to speak. Most big-box retailers such as Best Buy are trying to clear out their lower-tech stuff in favor of newer receiver models that offer surround sound, HDMI inputs, HDMI switching, DSP surround fields, and so on. Simple ';stereo'; models sell for very little.
Think some more about what you want the receiver to do- if you can see yourself using it for surround sound, movies, etc., in the future, you may want to invest in something that can do those things. If your only goal is to listen to booming base on a simple receiver and two speakers... you won't have to spend much money. A quick search on Amazon will give you the system you want for much less money than you would pay at a big-box retailer. If you are looking for something more specific than what you posted in the question, re-post with what you think you actually need... the more specific the better.
The speakers the previous poster mentions (i.e., JBL, Infinity, Klipsch, Definitive Technology, Polk audio, Boston) are all generally good- but the amount you have to spend will govern which of those speakers (if any) is the most cost effective solution for what you need.
If you want a good sounding stereo speaker with a controlled but deep bass, you should consider XTZ flagship floor stander, the XTZ 99.38. As this loudspeaker has an outside crossover, you can drive the bass unit with a separate subwoofer Amplifier, for instance XTZ SUB AMP1 DSP.
In this way you can achieve a very good overall system response, even you can correct your room acoustics by the room correction DSP embedded in the sub-amp.
Sound is subjective, so the best advice regarding speaker purchases is to listen to audition anything before you buy.
Regarding the record player, just make sure you can hook it up to the receiver the speakers are attached to.
If you want a stereo system you will need to buy a receiver so that you can plug a phone (record player) to it. Also buy name brand speaker assures you highly quality and reliability. Depending on your personal budget and the size of speakers you want. You will also need a sub woofer speaker (most of them have there own power amplifier built in) and how much power you want. I recommend you go to a retail store and demo the system prior to your purchase. Here are some brands to consider: JBL, Infinity, Klipsch, Definitive Technology, Polk audio and Boston. Hope this will help you out.
You need to indicate a price range for the speakers. $200? $1000?
If you want to use a turntable, you'll either need a receiver with a phono input, or an external phono preamp.
